As numbers increase, a battle over food stamps

More than 400,000 Iowans are on food stamps. Nationally, the program distributes about $75 billion to more than 46 million Americans. Last month, the U.S. House defeated the farm bill, which includes food stamps as well as farm programs. Republicans and Democrats alike cited food stamps as the reason they rejected the bill. Some Republicans said the more than $2 billion in cuts was not enough. Democrats said the cut was too steep.
