Lyle Muller/IowaWatch

Daphne Patton of Iowa City speaks during a live storytelling event at Iowa Writers' House in Iowa City that served as a fundraiser for Iowa Writers' House and IowaWatch on Nov. 30, 2017.

Iowans like to tell others how great their state is. How do you measure that? IowaWatch collaborated with Iowa Writers’ House of Iowa City to find out, by asking five people who moved to the state and adopted it as home about what made them do that.

We edited for length and presentation some of these for an IowaWatch Connection radio program that coincides with Iowa’s anniversary for achieving statehood. Iowa became a state on Dec. 28, 1846.
