• HF161 – addressing sexual abuse education and prevention in Iowa Schools – passed the House 97-0 this session. It was not brought to the Senate for consideration.
Iowa legislators still have time to attach it to the Health Human Services budget – encouragement from their constituents… and from school leaders might bring this forward.

  • Students need not wait for Iowa schools to incorporate topics such as sexual harassment and sexual violence into the curriculum. The national nonprofit Stop Sexual Assault in Schools (ssais.org) has a free online video for K-12 students and families called “Sexual Harassment: Not in Our School!” (ssais.org/video). It’s a student-centered video that offers simple steps and engaging activities to make schools safe learning spaces for all students.
